welcome to my second least favorite holiday of the year. (the first: new year's.) i mean, i like to drink as much as the next guy, but having an entahr holiday based on ppl getting shithammered (and don't tell me it's about eating corned beef and cabbage, either) is ot-nay oo-tay ight-bray.

if you can separate yourself from the bullshit and manufactured hype of what's "expected" of you on a given day, there's always the outside chance of carving out a special little tradition of your own and making it mean something to you (as opposed to just towing the booze line.)
yesterday, i cooked a corned beef brisket w/ cabbage, taters and carrots slow n' low for about 10 hours. the result looked like something pumped out of a backed up sewer pipe and tasted glorious.
had a guiness extra stout, opted out of going to see a friend's band play to avoid the craziness and topped the night off by reading an irish folktale to the kid (them leprechauns sure are crafty. kids too...)
not exactly traditional, but a tradition i could most def get behind.
