I read the article as pretty condescending towards what Brokaw calls the greatest generation.
I think the country needed a change of the guard, get the hell out of Iraq etc. but the point of the article that I agreed with most was the concept of believing. Obama has yet to do anything as a chief commander but we have to take him at his word. Let's see what gets done.

And for my part, I don't think it was condescending. What I read was a pretty accurate description of my grandparents' generation... stoic alcoholics who fought in WW2, came home and raised nuclear families in a cookie-cutter America, with plastic smiles painted on. People who stayed married for 50 years and never admitted that they hated each other. My parents - who are about 10 years older than Ken - were part of the anti-war movement. They picketed and boycotted and marched and tuned in, turned on and dropped out. And I am the tail end of generation X... disillusioned and disappointed in our government, fed up with superficial society, and finally, finally now seeing a leader in this country whom I can be proud of, and for whom I am willing to fight.
