r.i.p. robin syler

was saddened today to read that robin syler, a stone fort worth original who played the fire out of blues, surf music, and rockabilly, died at home on december 16th at age 54, an apparent suicide. whatever troubles he had during his time here, may he find peace now.

A tip of the hat is definitely in order.

I saw Robin play twice, once in Houston with Mike Judge on the bandstand and once at Sam's in Cityview with Doyle. On the latter of these two gigs there was no bass player .... Robin played a barritone guitar instead and man was it mean sounding. I remember thinking this guy was the real deal and that sound still sticks with me.

He obviously made a lasting impression on many blues players in Texas and I'm sorry to see him go.

Robin, thanks for all your contributions and here's to ya.

Thanks from the Siler family. Robin was my dad's cousin and always remember him coming over to the house listening to ideas I came up with, always with insight and enthusiasm.
